What are Fat Dissolving Injections?

Fat dissolving injections, or lipodissolve, are micro-injections that can be administered to various localised fat pockets around the body for a more contoured look. This includes the double chin, arms, abdomen, thighs, and much more. It is a non-surgical alternative to liposuction which can target areas resistant to diet and exercise. The fat cells are destroyed and permanently removed by the body.

How does it work?

Small injections of deoxycholic acid are injected into the fat in the area of concern. Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in the body where it helps to break down dietary fat. Once the fat cells are broken down, it is passed out by the body. Hence, results are permanent unless the patient gains fat again.

Are fat dissolving injections painful?

There is minimal discomfort during and after the treatment. Panadol is rarely necessary. If required, local anaesthetic can be administered during the treatment for a more comfortable experience. There might be slight swelling and tenderness for a couple days after the treatment but this is expected with most injectable treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Usually 1-3 treatments are required depending on the amount of fat being treated. Treatments can be done 4 weeks apart.

Are the results permanent?

The effect is permanent unless you put on weight.

Can fat dissolving injections reduce my double chin?

Double chins may be caused by fat or skin laxity or both. After the fat has been “dissolved”, you may need to have procedures such as HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) or threads to tighten the skin. In some cases when the cause of your double chin is skin laxity, HIFU or threads are a better choice.
