Dermal Filler Injections Melbourne
As we age, our skin’s collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid starts to diminish and break down which therefore results in the formation of creases and wrinkles in the skin. The bones, muscles and fat pads also begin to change during this process, which affect the overall facial volume and shape. Dermal fillers have been specifically designed to replace, or to add facial volume and to enhance facial contours whilst in turn restoring fullness and improving the hydration levels within the skin. They also help to fill out deep wrinkles and to provide clients with a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Dermal Fillers are a safe, non-invasive treatment which has been designed to help restore youth and volume to the face. As we age, we begin to lose elasticity, volume and natural hydration within our skin, which can therefore lead to signs of pre-mature ageing such as lines, wrinkles and sagging in the skin. Dermal Fillers can be used to help reverse the signs of ageing, by helping to fill out and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. They are also used to enhance and contour, or shape our facial features and structure.
Fillers are used to restore volume and plumpness to areas such as the chin, cheeks, lips, nose, and jawline and under the eyes. Dermal Fillers are a safe, effective and fast treatment, and are administered via tiny injections. The results from Dermal Filler treatments are shown immediately, with little to minimal downtime. This means that you can return to your day to day activities upon leaving the clinic. And the best part of it all – no one needs to know!
Dermal fillers are an injectable substance which are made up of complex sugar chains known as hyaluronic acid and are combined with a unique stabilisation process. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, where its main role is to hydrate and add volume to the skin. The gel like substance is tissue friendly as it closely resembles and mimics the hyaluronic acid that is already naturally found within our own bodies. Therefore, it is less likely to be recognised as a foreign object. Dermal Fillers are generally well tolerated and they are a safe and effective treatment, with minimal side effects. Once the Dermal Fillers have been injected, the hyaluronic acid filler substance occupies space and absorbs the soft tissue fluid found in the human body. They then expand and act as a gelatin in the soft tissue, & within the fine lines and wrinkles. This provides correction and volume to the facial structure and shape, where the dermal fillers have been injected.
Dermal Fillers can be administered in areas to soften the lines and wrinkles that have been already formed, or to add facial volume to areas such as the cheek and lip area, to shape facial contours. Dermal Fillers also help to revitalize the skin and its complexion.
Common areas as to which are treated include:
- Nose – To improve a prominent nose bridge or bump
- Nose to mouth lines (Nasolabial folds)
- Lines around the mouth (Perioral lines and Oral Commissures)
- Lips – To help achieve fuller lips, to enhance the cupid’s bow, or to soften lip lines
- Cheek (Defining cheekbones and restoring volume to cheeks)
- Chin (Improving the shape and forward protruding of the chin)
- Acne scar corrections
- Back of the hands
- Neck and décolletage areas
- Forehead and temporal areas
Dermal Fillers are administered via tiny injections directly under the skin’s surface, in order to fill out lines and wrinkles. Dermal Filler injections can also be used to restore facial contours and asymmetries. There are a range of different dermal filler products that can be used on different levels of the skin to meet your treatment expectations, and maximise your treatment results. During a thorough consultation and assessment with one of Skintech’s Melbourne cosmetic practitioner you can discuss your expectations and what you would like to achieve during your dermal filler treatment. According to the area to be treated and the client’s requests/expectations, Skintech’s Melbourne practitioner will decide which product would be best suitable to your needs.
Since Dermal Fillers are performed by using a very fine needle, there may be minimal pain or a tiny bit of discomfort during the treatment. Most clients describe the sensation of a small pinprick or mosquito sting. Most dermal fillers have a local anaesthetic (0.3% lidocaine) included in the product, therefore, this will provide clients with a more comfortable, pain free treatment. Some clients may opt for a local anaesthetic injection to be done prior to getting their dermal filler treatment. However, this is in most occasions not needed, considering there is already a local anaesthetic included in the product used. At Skintech Medical Melbourne, we also provide our patients with the option to apply numbing cream to the area being treated, prior to their treatment. This will ensure that you are provided with a comfortable and pleasant treatment, with little to no pain or discomfort.
This depends on the area that will treated and how many ml of filler the individual client requires, according to their expectations and what will be recommended by your practitioner, in order to achieve your desired results. The treatment itself can take anywhere between 15 to 45 minutes. Prior to the treatment, our cosmetic practitioner will go through a consultation and assessment prior to your treatment, in order to determine what your expectations and needs are, in order that they are met. The consultation can take around 15 minutes. After their treatment, most clients are able to resume their normal day to day activities upon leaving one of our Skintech Melbourne clinics. The practitioner will provide you with post-care information after your treatment.
The results can be seen immediately, however, there may be some swelling and/or post treatment, which can last for a few days. Therefore, the results of your treatment will be fully seen within two weeks, post treatment.
The Dermal Fillers used at Skintech Medical are not permanent, therefore depending on the product used they can last anywhere between 6 to 18 months. You can discuss this with your practitioner during your free consultation, in order to determine which product would best be suitable for you, and how long they may last. Hyaluronic acid fillers last from 6 to 12 months or longer, whilst synthetic fillers last anywhere from 12 to 18 months.
Each patient is different, therefore, results and how long they may last, will vary from person to person. The length of the results received from your dermal filler treatment, will also depend on a variety of factors which include age, the area that has been treated, quantity of dermal filler injected, and also the quality of the skin and lifestyle of the individual client. We recommend that you undergo follow up sessions, in order to maintain the optimal results from your initial dermal filler treatment.
There are minimal side effects from dermal filler treatments, as it is a safe and non-invasive treatment. However, common side effects can include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injected area, which will resolve within a few days after your dermal filler treatment. As all skin injection procedures carry a small risk of infection, this may occur, but is very rare. After lip enhancement, lips may swell for up to a week, but this typically reduces after two to three days. In case of more pronounced reactions or if they last longer than a week, we advise patients to contact our practitioner. You can discuss these side effects, prior to your treatment, with your Skintech Melbourne practitioner who will perform your treatment. You will also be provided with a post care sheet, in order to minimise and ensure you look after the treated area accordingly.
Although, Dermal Fillers & Anti-Wrinkle Injections are used in conjunction to provide patients with the ultimate treatment, there is a significant difference between the two treatments. Anti-Wrinkle Injections, are used to relax or “paralyse” the facial muscles, therefore helping to soften the expressions in the face and also to prevent from further wrinkles forming. Therefore, anti-wrinkle injections work towards providing the patient with a more youthful complexion. On the other hand, Dermal Fillers are used to contour and shape the facial structures, and provide volume features, helping to shape and also smooth out pre-existing wrinkles. When used in conjunction, clients will receive the ultimate anti-ageing treatment whilst rejuvenating and enhancing their facial features. Both anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers complement each other, and during a free consultation, our practitioner can advise which treatment would be best suitable to your needs and will provide you of a treatment plan, according to your expectations and what you wish to achieve.
