IPL Photo Rejuvenation
Many patients wish that there is a safe, easy and quick way to get rid of their red complexion, fine wrinkles, irregular pigmentation and large pores. Fortunately, at Skintech Medical, advanced technologies enable us to treat these skin imperfections safely and effectively. IPL photo rejuvenation was designed to combat the effects of aging and damaged skin in softer, and gentler way.
Intense Pulsed Light is a technology where light converted into heat energy. The selected light waves target chromophores (colour pigments) such as melanin in brown spots and freckles; and such as haemoglobin in broken or diffused blood vessels. The light waves can also target specific protein molecules in acne bacteria and destroy them. IPL treats all conditions without disruption to the skin’s surface.
The advanced IPL system gently delivers precise amount of light energy through your skin’s surface. Treatments are spaced at 3 to 4 weeks intervals. The energy is delivered at specific settings for each treatment to maximise the treatment results.
The light energy stimulates the production of collagen. As the new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of aging skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are also decreased. The redness associated with rosacea can too be greatly reduced.
The biggest difference between IPL and laser is the coverage. Laser beams are much narrow, covering only a small spot area, as supposed to IPL, which its coverage is several times the size of the laser beam, and therefore the treatments are much quicker. Besides, laser produces light from one specific wavelength, or colour, for a very specific target. While the light emitted from IPL is composed of a spectrum of colours from different wavelengths, enabling selective photo-absorption (light absorption) to different targets.
Similar to laser treatments, with the IPL treatment, patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Topical anaesthetic creams are not required but is available for patients upon request. After the treatment, the pain is very minimal to non-existent.
Depending on the area treated, there will be a series of 5 to 8 treatments. Each treatment takes from 15 to 30 minutes to perform and are spaced at 3 to 4 weeks interval.
Usually after only one treatment, your skin will feel smoother and toned. Sunspots will fade. Pore sizes will shrink. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with every treatment.
The results achieved from the treatment are expected to last for possibly several years or longer. However this treatment does not guarantee to maintain the results permanently. This is why it is recommended for patients to come in for maintenance treatments in order to maintain the positive benefits that have been achieved after completing the first series of at least 5 treatments.
As IPL causes heat in the target tissues, it is normal for the areas to be slightly reddened after the treatment, but the redness would normally subside within half an hour or so.
