Laser Hair Removal
Tired of shaving, plucking and waxing? Tired of worrying about coarse prickly hairs that grow back every other week? Advancement in technology has made permanent hair reduction a whole lot easier! Laser hair removal has become one of the most commonly used procedures to get rid of unwanted hair.
Skintech Medical Cosmetic Laser Clinic is your one stop solution to permanent hair reduction. Rest assured that all of our technicians are highly experienced and in addition holds the Laser Safety Certificate. We pride ourselves for having knowledgeable understanding of hair removal techniques, far superior than anyone else. At Skintech Medical, we offer medical grade lasers, combining together characteristics that enable deeper penetration by laser energy of the targeted area and faster treatments than early forms of Laser Hair Removal machines such as Long Pulse Ruby, Diode Lasers and Flash-lamp devices. This form of laser is safe and effective for all skin colours.
Hair removal lasers release light at a specific wavelength, which is then absorbed by the pigment (colour) in the hair follicle. The light is converted to heat energy, which then disables the hair follicle so that it will not produce anymore unwanted hair. Most patients will require a number of treatments, which will result in permanent hair reduction. Some individuals may require maintenance treatments over time, where other patients will see long-term hair removal lasting for several years. Each patient is different and the results depending on the thickness and density of the hairs.
Since the hair grows in cycles, a number of sessions are required to see desired results. Patients will get best results when the hair is the anagen phase of the growth, which is the active growth phase. Different factors also determine the number of sessions each individual will need.
On average, patients need to come in every 4-6 weeks (depending on the area) and you may need between 5 – 8 sessions. Generally, patients can expect to see up to an 80% hair reduction, while some patients may require additional maintenance sessions.
Factors such as hormones, medication and genetics can alter results, so please discuss with your specialist if you are on medication or have any hormonal imbalances to see if you are a suitable candidate for laser hair removal.
Session times can last for a few minutes or up to an hour. This depends on how large or small the area you are treating is and how many different areas you are treating.
There is no downtime with laser hair removal, however some patients may experience redness after their session. This usually subsides after a few hours and you can return to normal activity straight after your session. You must wear sunscreen on treated areas if exposed to the sun.
- Shaving the day before is recommended for ultimate results and to save time on the day of treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure, including use of solariums, fake tanning, waxing or plucking prior to your treatment. Please remove any fake tan before coming in for your treatment,
- Cleanse skin and remove lotions/deodorant prior to treatment.
Laser hair removal may cause some minor discomfort, but it is very low and tolerable. During the treatment we also use a cooler to protect your outer skin during your treatment, which will also help to lower discomfort. The settings we used are based on your skin type so superficial burns are prevented. You will experience minimum discomfort during the treatment as opposed to waxing, electrolysis, and tweezing.
Laser hair removal can be used on any parts of the body, including larger areas, and is a safe, fast, gentle and effective alternative method to hair removal.
Laser hair removal works best on individuals with light skin and coarse, dark hair (brown and black) hair. Hormonal imbalance and other factors may alter results for patients; therefore it is best to undergo a consultation before doing the treatment.
